How-to - Prevent Lansweeper from automatically Inactivating and/or Deleting Displays (Monitors) within Lansweeper

Aim

Customers may want to treat Displays (Monitors) differently to other Lansweeper assets when it comes to Lansweeper’s handling of the following:

  1. How Lansweeper automatically updates the Status of Displays to Non-Active when a Display has not been “seen” for “n” number of days.

  2. Whether Lansweeper physically deletes a Display when it has not been “seen” for another “n” number of days.

Lansweeper’s status values and asset deletion behaviour are used by CI Sync’s data transform rules to drive how CIs and Assets are updated and/or deleted in ServiceNow. For more context on this topic please read the following page (and the various pages it refers to): Rule 25 - Handling of Displays (Monitors) in Lansweeper On-Prem.

The instructions below explain how to prevent Lansweeper’s automatic cleanup rules being applied to Displays (Monitors). By preventing Displays from being subject to these cleanup rules in Lansweeper, customers can ensure their Displays are not automatically retired and/or deleted in ServiceNow by CI Sync.

Steps

Follow these steps to excluded Displays only from being subject to Lansweeper’s cleanup rules (i.e. the cleanup rules driven from Lansweeper’s Last Seen functionality).

Customers can exclude assets from the cleanup rules using the following options:

  1. You can run a scheduled task on the database that enables this for Displays only by setting the tblAssetCustom.PreventCleanup field to 1.

  2. Customers can also edit a single asset or using the bulk edit option in the UI

Once a Display (or any other asset) has been excluded from the cleanup rules, you can confirm by looking at the individual asset in the Lansweeper UI (see below).
