Rule 5b – Synchronization of various Manufacturers on the Child Records of the CI

Rule Synopsis

These are the rule/s that control whether CI Sync synchronizes, and therefore sets, the Manufacturer attribute on various child records of the main/parent CI. The list of child record manufacturers covered by these rules are described further below.

Rule Details and Default

• By default, CI Sync does not sync/set each of the listed Manufacturers (as read from the source system asset record) on the related child records of the main/parent CI.  This default position is to avoid a proliferation of additional Manufacturers values within ServiceNow (i.e. there is a large variety of Manufacturers on these child records and sync’ing/setting these into ServiceNow may create unnecessary noise).

This rule applies to the Manufacturer attribute on each individual CI (i.e. whether CI Sync sets a foreign key reference between the individual CI and the Manufacturer Master Data table (i.e. the core_company table) in ServiceNow). Override Options

Context

Customers may consider overriding any one of these rules so that CI Sync does sync/set the manufacturer value on the related child records. 

Options

1. These rules can be amended so CI Sync does sync/set the Manufacturer on the child records.  The override can be performed on each of the listed child record manufacturers:

   1. CPU Manufacturers

   2. Disk Manufacturers

   3. Network Adapter Manufacturers

   4. Software Manufacturers

   5. Tracked File Manufacturers

Overriding via Connection Settings

Customers can perform the override using a “Connection Setting” via the CI Sync User Interface (i.e. customers can perform the overrides themselves). Additional information for this is available via the following documentation:
