Rule Synopsis
These are the rule/s that control whether CI Sync uses non-unique MAC Addresses when attempting to match (correlate) existing CIs with incoming source system assets.
Syncfish treats the following as non-unique (i.e. highly reused) MAC Addresses:
-
Locally Administered MAC Addresses.
-
Certain VPN client related MAC Addresses (e.g. Fortinet VPN client).
Rule Details and Default
-
By default, CI Sync does not use non-unique MAC Addresses when attempting to match (correlate) existing CIs with incoming source system assets.
-
Also, CI Sync contains default logic (regex expression values) to define which MAC Address patterns constitute non-unique ones.
Override Options
Context
Syncfish generally recommend customers do not disable the default setting (to include non-unique MAC Addresses in CI Sync correlation logic).
However, customers may wish to update CI Sync’s default determination logic to include additional expressions that constitute non-unique MAC Addresses (e.g. for specific VPN clients in use within the organisation).
Override
-
While not recommended, the rule can be amended does use non-unique MAC Addresses when attempting to match (correlate) existing CIs with incoming source system assets.
-
The default logic (regex expression values) to define which MAC Address patterns constitute non-unique ones can be updated to expand the definition of non-unique MAC Addresses.
Overriding via Connection Settings
Also, customers can perform the override using a “Connection Setting” via the CI Sync User Interface (i.e. customers can perform the overrides themselves). Additional information for this is available via the following documentation:
