Rule Synopsis
These are the rule/s that control whether CI Sync automatic creates/inserts new hardware models (or not) into the master data table in ServiceNow. The specific master data table used by CI Sync is determined by a separate rule (See ServiceNow (dest) Rule: Rule 6c – Which Model Record Master Data Table to use in ServiceNow ).
Rule Details and Default
-
By default, CI Sync does create/insert new records in the relevant Model master data table (i.e. either the cmdb_hardware_product_model or the cmdb_model table) in ServiceNow when an incoming hardware model value from the source system cannot be matched to an existing record in the table.
This rule is relevant to any/all Model records read from the source system including Models related to the main/parent CI, and Models related to child records (i.e. sub-component records) associated with the main/parent CI.
Override Options
Context
Customers may consider overriding the default rule so that CI Sync does not create/insert into the relevant Model master data table for new Models read from the source system (i.e. to maintain referential integrity between the CI Model attribute and the relevant Model master data table entries).
Options
-
This Data Sync Rule can be overridden so that CI Sync does not create/insert into the relevant Model master data table.
Overriding via Connection Settings
Customers can perform the override using a “Connection Setting” via the CI Sync User Interface (i.e. customers can perform the overrides themselves). Additional information for this is available via the following documentation:
-
For a general overview of CI Sync Connection Settings please read Understanding the use of CI Sync Connection Settings.
-
For the specific CI Sync Connection Setting/s related to the rule described on this page please read Model Master Data Handling in ServiceNow.
For documentation on all CI Sync Connection Settings please visit the page tree Connection Setting Guides.
