Rule 4 – Custom Asset Location Determination Rules

Rule Synopsis

These are any custom rules to control how CI Sync determines or “elicits” the Location value of a given source system Asset when the Standard Asset Location Determination options are not suitable.

Rule Details and Default

  • Customers may have complex requirements which mean the Standard Asset Location Determination Options (Rules) cannot be applied.

  • This can often be the case in large/complex businesses across different geographical boundaries, with multiple business units and/or multiple entities within a single company.

  • To determine location in these complex scenarios CI Sync can extract values, or portions of values, from any available attribute associated with the source data. Examples include the use of hostname/asset name (or a portion of the same), registry (or similar OS persisted values), tag values and similar.

  • As long as there is a source system attribute to provide a location “clue”, CI Sync can leverage the data to persist location data in each CMDB CI record.
