Purpose of Config Guides

This Default Configuration Guide explains the major default behaviours, implemented via the default Data Sync Rules in a newly provisioned customer-specific instance of CI Synchronizer (CI Sync).

The guide therefore allows customers to do the following:

  1. To predict (even before running your first sync job) how the source system data will appear and behave when it arrives in your ServiceNow system.

  1. To determine whether changes will be required to the default Data Sync Rules (i.e. when you will require any customer specific overrides) .

  1. To determine whether an Extended Implementation and Ongoing Support Plan will be beneficial; not just for the increased types and levels of support assistance, but to obtain Syncfish assistance to implement or refine CI Sync’s Advanced Data Sync Rules, or to create Custom Data Sync Rules.

It is important for customers to read this guide for the following reasons:

  • To understand the default Data Sync Rules that ship with each newly provisioned customer-specific instance of CI Sync.

  • To assess the benefit of purchasing an Extended Implementation and Ongoing Support Plan. Details of the plans are published here on the Syncfish website.

The above topics are important as some rule overrides can be performed by you as the customer (using Self-Service in the CI Sync Web UI) while other rule overrides can only be performed by Syncfish developers for customers who purchase one of the Extended Implementation and Ongoing Support Plans.

Please reach out to your CI Sync Customer Success Manager (CSM) if you need further explanation about the default Data Sync Rules, the available rules and overrides, the inclusion of rule overrides as part of your CI Sync Subscription (at no additional cost), or the inclusions and benefits of an Extended Implementation and Ongoing Support Plan (at an additional cost).

Below is a summary of the rule override categories to assist when reading this document.

Standard Rule Overrides

The group of rules that are commonly overridden and that have been implemented in the CI Sync Web UI so that customers can override themselves.

*

*

*

*

Advanced Rule Overrides

These rules are also commonly overridden but are very difficult to offer for self-service because they often have complex interdependencies.

*

*

*

Custom Rule Overrides

These rules often have complex interdependencies but also require consultation and a deeper understanding of the destination CMDB before implementing or refining.

*

*

Custom Rule Development

These rules require consultation as they are often geographically specific, business unit specific or contain other complex variations.
