Rule 23 - Filtering Devices for Lansweeper On-Prem

Rule Synopsis

These are the rule/s that control whether CI Sync jobs filter (i.e. ignore) certain devices and therefore do not create/update the corresponding CIs in the ServiceNow CMDB.

Rule Details and Default

Override Options

Context

Customers may consider overriding the default rule for two typical reasons:

  1. While testing. Filtering devices is a way of reducing the number of records processed and thereby speeding up the testing process (e.g. if you have 50,000 windows PCs you may want to filter a portion of these to reduce the number of PCs sync’d during a testing period).

  2. To faciliate a progressive sync/CMDB rollout. Some customers have utilised device filtering in Production to facilitate a progressive asset synchronization as part of a rollout strategy. Syncfish strongly recommend you contact us to discuss Production filtering before you configure device filtering in Production.

Options

  1. The rule can be amended so CI Sync will only synchronize devices that have an IP Address within a defined CIDR ranges (this is an “Include” override).

  2. The rule can be amended so CI Sync will only synchronize devices that do not have an IP Address within a defined CIDR ranges (this is an “Exclude” override).

Overriding via Connection Settings

Customers can perform the override using a “Connection Setting” via the CI Sync User Interface (i.e. customers can perform the overrides themselves). Additional information for this is available via the following documentation:

  1. For a general overview of CI Sync Connection Settings please read Understanding the use of CI Sync Connection Settings.

  2. For the specific CI Sync Connection Setting/s related to the rule described on this page please read Device Filtering for Lansweeper On-Prem.
