Rule Synopsis
These are the rule/s that control whether CI Sync synchronizes, and therefore creates, Software Product Models as master data in ServiceNow.
Rule Details and Default
-
By default, CI Sync does not sync/create Software Product Models as master data in ServiceNow.
Override Options
Context
Customers may consider overriding the default rule so CI Sync does sync/create Software Product Models as master data in ServiceNow. This could be used to support basic Software Asset Management scenarios by having a unique list of software at configurable level of software version.
If this rule is overridden (to cause CI Sync to sync/create Software Product Modules), then CI Sync creates this master data in the cmdb_software_product_model table in ServiceNow. The Software Product Model will also be referenced from the cmdb_ci_spkg record table in ServiceNow.
Options
-
The rule can be amended so CI Sync does sync/create Software Product Models as master data in ServiceNow.
-
The rule can be further influenced by defining the “Version Depth” by which CI Sync will aggregate Software Product Models. The options for this refinement are as follows:
-
Ignore the version attribute (This option will cause a large number of Software Product Models to be created).
-
Aggregate the Software Product Models based on the Major Software Version only.
-
Aggregate the Software Product Models based on the Major and Minor Software Version.
-
Aggregate the Software Product Models based on the Major, Minor Software Version and the Software Revision Number.
-
Aggregate the Software Product Models based on all available Version and Revision numbers.
-
Overriding via Connection Settings
Customers can perform the override using a “Connection Setting” via the CI Sync User Interface (i.e. customers can perform the overrides themselves). Additional information for this is available via the following documentation:
-
For a general overview of CI Sync Connection Settings please read Understanding the use of CI Sync Connection Settings.
-
For the specific CI Sync Connection Setting/s related to the rule described on this page please read Set Models on CIs in ServiceNow.

-

-

-
